The function toolkit that everything else extends. You master linear, quadratic and polynomial functions, their graphs, and the transformation language VCAA uses to describe them. Probability begins with the rules and notation that return in Unit 4. Our focus is algebraic fluency: the students who thrive in Methods are the ones whose Unit 1 algebra became automatic.
Linear and quadratic functions Polynomials Transformations Probability foundations + more
The year turns here. Exponential, logarithmic and circular functions complete your function library, then calculus arrives: average and instantaneous rates of change, differentiation from first principles, and its first applications. Anti-differentiation closes the unit. We teach the why behind every rule, because Unit 3 punishes students who only memorised procedures.
Exponentials and logarithms Circular functions Differentiation Anti-differentiation + more
The exam course begins. Composite and inverse functions extend your algebra, then differentiation deepens into curve sketching, optimisation and related applications. Integration covers areas, average values and the fundamental theorem of calculus. Every topic is practised in both exam styles, with a weekly tech-free drill building the by-hand speed Paper 1 demands.
Composite and inverse functions Differentiation and applications Integration and areas Tech-free technique + more
Probability becomes the second pillar of the exam: discrete random variables, the binomial distribution, continuous distributions and the normal model, then sample proportions and confidence intervals. From September the program shifts fully to exam mode: complete VCAA papers under timed conditions, error-log reviews, and the mark-by-mark technique that separates a 38 from a 44.
Discrete and continuous distributions Binomial and normal distributions Statistical inference Full exam strategy + more
Methods has two exams and we prepare you for both: weekly tech-free drills to sharpen by-hand algebra speed, and tech-active practice that turns your CAS into a time weapon. Full timed VCAA papers under exam conditions, with an error log that tells you which topics and question types to revise first.

These are highlights only. Your classes cover every key knowledge point in the current VCAA Maths Methods study design, plus the exam skills built on top of it.

FAQ

VCE Maths Methods Tutoring FAQs

Yes, but the gap needs closing early. Our tutors run diagnostic checks in your first sessions and rebuild any Year 10 foundations quickly, because strong algebra is what makes the tech-free paper feel manageable.
Extensively. Calculator fluency is worth real marks on the tech-active paper. We teach the fastest CAS approach for every topic and when writing working by hand is actually quicker.
Six students maximum, a tutor who scored in the top percentile of this exact subject, and materials written in-house around the current study design. You get individual attention a class of 25 cannot offer.
